Captain America #609 (Marvel)
"No Escape Part 4"
Ed Brubaker
Butch Guice
Rick Magyar/Andrew Hennessy
Paul Mounts
Joe Caramagna
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

what we learned: Baron Zemo agitates Bucky easily and draws him into a trap, and uses Hauptmann to keep Steve, Sam and Natasha busy. naturally, Bucky is soon in chains and en route to Zemo island.
oh shit moment: how many times did Bucky get knocked out in the past six or seven issues? do we want this in our Captain America?
what's next: Bucky finally gets to die in the English channel. grab the popcorn.

Zemo missed out on shooting Cap so he had to make up for lost time.

Secret Avengers #4 (Marvel)
"Secret Histories, Part 4 of 4"
Ed Brubaker
Mike Deodato Jr.
Rain Beredo
Dave Lanphear
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

what we learned: Ant-Man saves the day and a Nova-ed Steve Rogers does the rest, breaking the Serpent's Crown hold on Richard Rider, who basically didn't do anything of note except get taken over (dumbass). ditto Natasha and Moon Knight (cosmic adventures are not his speed).
oh shit moment: is there anything Rogers can't do? ah, i know. next time he meets Thanos, he should punch him out cold, not die like he did before.
what's next: we learn more things about Li'l Nicky.

yep, Sharon also has evidence that you did all this shit too.

Steve Rogers: Super Soldier #2 (Marvel)
Ed Brubaker
Dale Eaglesham
Andy Troy
Joe Caramagna
Carlos Pacheco/Tim Townsend/Frank D'Armata (cover)

what we learned: Ed Brubaker doesn't waste any time in revealing who the big bad villain is. after another Erskine bites the dust because Rogers can't save any of 'em, he does the patented Daredevil schtick and beats up half of Madripoor including the ice cream cart guy, and gets zilch. he starts following the late Erskine's wife, who's a doppelganger for a previous love interest (Steve Rogers, Ladies Man). but of course, that's just to prick his all-American heart.
oh shit moment: anybody remember the beach scene from the Madbomb storyline?
what's next: Steve Rogers, Super Sissy!

his safehouse has HDTV? holy crap! i gotta break into one of those!

Captain America #608 (Marvel)
"No Escape Part 3"
Ed Brubaker
Butch Guice
Rick Magyar/Mark Pennington
Dean White/Elizabeth Dismang/Frank Martin
Joe Caramagna
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

what we learned: the new Beetle gives Cap and the Black Widow a good fight, and she knows who Bucky is. even worse, his real name and his Winter Soldier past is now on Fox News.
oh shit moment: yeah, Fixer is not on the side of the angels. crap.
what's next: Zemo probably shows his ugly mug.

"okay ... okay ... you're much cuter than Steve Rogers!!"

drive-by readings

Secret Avengers #3 (Marvel)
"Secret Histories, Part 3 of 4"
Ed Brubaker
Mike Deodato Jr.
Rain Beredo
Dave Lanphear
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

what we learned: you know that Shadow Council that has "a" badass(er) Nick Fury? well, it just might be that this thing stretches back to the wild West days of frontier America. and you know that Texans always like 'em big. not to mention something called "The Abyss" that the wearers of the Serpent Crown are influenced by. apparently, the Watchers (who never just watch) created a bunch of robots called the Archons to guard against the resurrection of The Abyss by his "dark children". Steve Rogers (kinda weird calling him that) and his black ops Avengers are in a bigger pile of doodoo than he thought.
oh shit moment: the Serpent Crown-ed Nova, taking out everyone pretty easily. hmmmm, he never went up against Rogers yet. or Ant-Man!
what's next: this should be the oh-shit moment: the cover to next issue has Steve wearing the crown ... i mean, the Helmet Known as Worldmind!

seems like Nova is pro-equal rights for women - if superhero males can be pummeled, so can the ladies.

tweets after the fact

will be hitting Midtown Comics later for @brianmbendis, @mattfraction, @edbrubaker & @christosgage signing. #heavybackpack

OH SHIT!! @Agent_M Photo: Tonight’s event at @MidtownComics. I hear tell that lines are already forming.

thanks to @edbrubaker @brianmbendis and @mattfraction for the signings. props to @midtowncomics but book limit sucks.

i brought a lot of Bru books but only managed to get my Death of Capt America trade signed (special bec it already had Epting's & Perkin's).

i should've wangled Incognito as an additional book to be signed. didn't even get to joke about @edbrubaker's hat and Eisners. #grumpy

i should've wangled UXM Sisterhood trade as an additional book 2 be signed for @mattfraction. didn't even get 2 say congrats 4 his new baby.

but i got all my @brianmbendis books signed, God bless the man. but didn't even get to ask about the Marvel Avengers retreat.

come to think of it, i didn't get to yell "don't kill Bucky!!!" at @edbrubaker.

Captain America #606 (Marvel)
"No Escape, Part 1"
Ed Brubaker
Butch Guice
Dean White

Joe Sabino
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

to kick off the Heroic Age, Bucky Barnes is now firmly and officially the Captain America of these times. and with that ascension, snakes have come crawling out of the woodwork. a certain snake whose name starts with a Z. hey, how come this guy never bites it? its actually a failure for Steve Rogers himself, way back in the Mansion Siege. now Buck has to clean the mess up. interestingly, since this is Zemo Jr., and Buck's the younger Cap, then they should really become each other's mortal enemy and bitter rival.

knowing what we know in Jeff Parker's new Thunderbolts, Zemo already made his official appearance to the world, "recruiting" Luke Cage's team. and i'm a bit stunned to see the Fixer here helping out the Baron, considering its been established that he's switched sides a long time ago. true, he's been a Baron loyalist, but i'm a little sick of (comic) betrayals lately. why can't the bad guys be good for a change? also, why is the Wrecking Crew still on the streets after Siege?

i can take the Ghost being a sleeper, because that guy's just dirt. i assume he's been (re)planted into the Thunderbolts program, but then again what is Zemo's point, aside from the destruction of anyone wearing the Captain America uniform? he's nowhere near going to control the world as it is, and even if he had the Cosmic Cube, that's a hollow victory.

Butch Guice is now handling full art chores, providing a seamless transition from when he was inking Luke Ross. not sure if i'm really sold on the art work though. maybe i just miss Michael Lark.

house of secrets

drive-by readings

Secret Avengers #1 (Marvel)
"Secret Histories, Part One"
Ed Brubaker
Mike Deodato
Rain Beredo
Dave Lanphear
Marko Djurdjevic (cover)

for a title or a team with the word 'Secret' attached to it, i don't see them being a secret for far too long. i know its Steve Rogers' version of a black ops team (and NOT having Wolverine in it, because, well, he's already part of one, and he's out in the open in the main Avengers team as their designated dirty-works guy), and the characters more or less operate in the fringes of the Marvel U as its their natural habitat, but i wager their missions would eventually come out in the open with explosive consequences. i mean, what if they found out things that puts them in conflict with other hero teams in the 616? will Steve go against Luke? against Thor? against Reed? he's walking a thin line here, top cop and all that.

but that's for the future. for now, let's enjoy what the fine gentlemen storytellers Brubaker and Deodato give us, and for sure the ride's gonna be a thrilling one. first off, who's on the team? i'm not surprised by the additions of Moon Knight ("Crescent Wrench" - hah!) or Nova (you need a space cadet - and i also want to see if Steve's comment - "what kind of operation do you think am running here?" in reference to covering for every scenario - blows up in his face eventually). i'm not put off by having Valkyrie in - if anything, it gives them some demi-god power sets (remember who took Ares down in that X-Men/Dark Avengers scrap?) and of course, eye candy. no, i'm surprised at the addition of Eric O'Grady - apparently no one bothered to take away the Ant-Man costume from him, not even Hank "I'm Scientist Supreme And You're Not" Pym - who's not been made to answer for his crimes. all you need to be absolved is join the T-Bolts, and accept any offer of Avengership from the first Captain America. so we can say he's no longer irredeemable. does Cassie know about this? oh, wait, it's a ... secret.

Black Widow? Valkyrie? sold!!!

so where does the team's first mission take them? i'm pumped because it involves ... the Serpent Crown! old-schoolers like me remember this piece in Avengers lore as the cause of that whole mind-control-Squadron-Supreme punchup back in Avengers vol. 1 #141-148. now it may not be exactly the Serpent Crown, or rather it may be another version of the Serpent Crown. and it also involves Mars (why else is Nova in this book?), and it also involves this guy:

HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT.

ok, we know Nick Fury's been having Hydra trouble, and he claims S.H.I.E.L.D. was being subverted by Hydra all along. also, he's been revealed to be a critical piece of Hydra or Zodiac as well. this probably confirms it, but it causes much more confusion. its all in Bendis' and Hickman's heads, i guess. wait, can we assume that's Jake Fury/Scorpio?

we have another stellar issue from Mike Deodato, and really, the only thing that annoys me is his love for behind-the-back-downward-angle camera POVs with the characters all posing as action figures (puffed chest, wide stance, arms tense). i mean, come on!

having an idea of what Ed Brubaker is capable of (what? there really is a third Summers brother??), i won't be surprised if he shakes Avengers history to the core by the end of his run.

snaps: Captain America #603

... where we find our intrepid Cap & Falcon pairing (Sam must feel reaaaaally old) run headlong into a trap set by Bad Cap of the '50s. wow, that old geezer effed you up good, didn't he? are you gonna let him get away with that, Buck? are ya?

Batman and Robin did this all the time, and the Internet giggled.

so that's what he did after retiring from editing Captain America!

i didn't know The Shocker could fly ... or was black.

"hey Buck, Steve told me Natasha's been around the block a few times ..."

ok, let's try to figure out what they said ... is it "nagger"?

"no, this symbolizes America punching the black man in the face!"

excellent work as usual from Mr. Brubaker.

Teabaggers hate Captain America!!! (update)

(from the earlier post about this brewing controversy)

think about it, comic fans: the medium now matters a lot more because political movements - we can link them to the conservative right wingers, yes? the ones who used to excoriate comics as the devil's work that fried our kids' brains - are now concerned about their "portrayal" in comic books as they know it reaches a generation of potential voters. suddenly comics are not just "kid stuff" anymore, and the Teabag Party is protesting Glenn Beck caricatures and racist/hater portrayals and demanding more than apologies. did any of you white farts apologize to the American people for your policies and hijacking of the national image during the last 10 years?

or they're just reverting to type, all along.

Teabaggers hate Captain America!!!

oh, wait ... they take offense on a panel in Captain America #602, and Joe Q has to explain and apologize. (via @doomkopf)

looks like Joe Caramagna takes the fall for this.

but really ... only dogs that get hit, bark.

/i'm with Bru on this one. teabag the teabaggers!!

... where everything's anti-climatic. two new pieces of information: there's an apocalyptic future coming (well, that's not news) and recite this phrase before you go to bed: "like father, like daughter."

i didn't know Sam swung that way.

you mean the Canadian cable company right?

first, she gets mind-controlled and shoots Steve. now, she makes the Red Skull like the green giant. way to go, Sharon!!!

seriously though: Bryan Hitch's art has been getting ... painful, shall we say, in the past year or so. this is not The Authority and Ultimates vol. 1 .

if its painful for us, how much more for Steve? his torso seems have been Kate Moss-ed.

they're running? are they catching the Acela back to New York? where the hell's Cloak?

by the way, does this mean they had him all along, before Clint went nuts and went to kill Osborn and the girls had to rescue him? shouldn't Steve have led the charge? who coordinates all these stories??

so ... it didn't take that long eh? it wasn't that long ago when i wrote this.

for Ed Brubaker's next trick: Jean Grey is coming back. and as a bonus, so will Uncle Ben.

Ed Brubaker finally unveils his master plan for reviving the Cap of the '50s - he's now a right-wing nut, with a burgeoning army to boot (ably filled by a Mark Gruenwald creation, the Watchdogs). no offense to the actual residents of Boise, Idaho - there are some serious crazies out there. with all the files S.H.I.E.L.D. or rather, Nick Fury has, how could they not track the insane William Burnside to his hometown? Bucky Cap and the Falcon cook up a plan to infiltrate the lunatic fringe, but Bad Cap may just be a couple of steps ahead of them. not sure how all of these ties into Siege (Fury mentions Osborn so that means it hasn't happened yet), and looks like a meaty side story before the launch of a post-Osborn Marvel Universe. hopefully, the (anti-climactic) last issue of Reborn also comes out before then.

snaps: Who Will Wield the Shield?

... where scheduling issues and editorial trafficking whack us upside the head. again. and oh, yes, the Red Skull is not inside Steve Rogers. well, glad you cleared that up!!

1) yeah, you're sorry. so no need to buy Reborn #6 anymore right?

2) where were you in Vietnam? or Iraq? or Afghanistan?

3) memo to Natasha: you're a former villain, boinked at least three male Avengers (four, if she did it with Hercules; five, if Daredevil counts as honorary), and your stint as Avengers chairperson isn't that scintillating. you're stabbing Steve in the back now? what if Steve was also a notch on your bracelets?

4) help!!!! what does the one-way sign symbolisms mean?? wwwaaaauuuughhhhh!!!

5) you are about to be enlisted in the health care bill battle, Steve, and its up your alley, because heck, you're like 80 years old and change. good luck.

... where we're still an issue away from finding out who the hell is in Captain America's body. bring me the head of the scheduling mooks who are responsible for this!

1) why the hell is he laughing when he has the pink eye? (also, who laughs like "byahahahahaa"??)

2) oh, so sticks and stones, and and also words, can break your bones.

3) so that spells out "Super M.O.D.O.K. Super Heroes" ... M.O.R.O.N.

and if they don't get to kill even one superhero ... well, well, somebody has to return their friggin' bailout money!!!!

Steve Rogers has cool contacts

just kidding. that's the Red Skull realizing his ultimate dream (again) of inhabiting Steve Rogers's body (that sounded creepy).

so, does this mean in the upcoming Siege, "Capskull America" fights alongside Thor and presumably Tony Stark to bring down Norman Osborn? holy fecal matter!

Rocksteady Studios, listen up ...

having just finished Batman: Arkham Asylum recently, i was thinking whether you can use the same game engine to every other superhero character now, given its huge success.

my character of choice would be Steve Rogers in Captain America: White House.

ok, that's just a working title, and it really sounds lame. but here's the plot. the Red Skull has taken over 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and its up to Captain America to rescue the Prez and everyone else (yes, even Bo).

you'd have the requisite supporting cast: Crossbones and Sin, Nick Fury and Dum Dum, Sharon Carter and Diamondback (catfight!!!), Falcon and Redwing, and even the Serpent Society. Skull works with renegade Russian general and Kronas Corp CEO Aleksander Lukin to penetrate the White House and bring the free world to its knees. the Serpent Society has been hired as mercenaries to secure and defend the White House from would-be rescuers. Crossbones and Sin, of course, commands the militia as Skull's second-in-commands. there will be a Nomad, and he could die as well. characters who will not be appearing include Flag-Smasher and Scourge. and D-Man.

Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. provide intel and support for Cap, ably aided by Sharon in certain levels (maybe even a playable character). the story can even be expanded to different locales as Cap tracks down informants and objects to get to the next level. the real doozy for Cap would still be the assault on the White House, going through the Serpent Society, fighting a super-enhanced version of himself (Ameridroid/Lyle Dekker, above - like a Titan-doused Joker), having to beat both Crossbones and Sin, then finally taking down the Red Skull without harming a hair on Robert Gibbs' head (or the rest of the White House staff).

they'd have to think hard how to design the shield throwing/returning action. how did they it Ultimate Alliance? Cap has been dubbed the World's Greatest Fighting Machine - you do the combat engine math.

oh yeah, there'll be cameos by the Winter Soldier, who's sent by General Lukin to double-cross the Red Skull, but is flipped by Cap and together they stop this nefarious plan to turn us into Fourth Reich slaves.

so, sounds good? of course. it will be written by Ed Brubaker. perfect for the planned 2011 movie.

drive-by readings TPB: Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire

Uncanny X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire (Marvel)
Ed Brubaker
Billy Tan
Clayton Henry
Danny Miki
Allen Martinez
Mark Morales
Frank D'Armata
Wil Quintana
Joe Caramagna
Chris Eliopoulos
John Watson (other covers)
picking up from where he left off in Deadly Genesis, Ed Brubaker lays in the foundations for the ascension of the third Summers brother Vulcan as a powerhouse villain to be reckoned with, culminating in last summer's War of Kings.

with ol' Charlie Xavier messing up by not telling everything to Scott and Alex, he tries to make up for it by putting an ad hoc team together and try to stop Gabriel/Vulcan from annihilating the Shi'ar Empire - surprisingly, Scott doesn't put up much resistance, considering that team includes Alex and his alternate timeline daughter, Rachel. Xavier's lineup of choice also has Warpath (link to "second" X-team), Nightcrawler (perfect swashbuckler), Darwin (link to the real "second" X-team), and Lorna Dane/Polaris, whom they rescued just for this mission. Xavier's a real sneaky bastard, ain't he?

Vulcan prepares for any pursuit from Earth, so as soon as he gets the chance (by hijacking a Shi'ar military ship) he disables all Shi'ar stargates needed to jump back to the Shi'ar homeworld Chandilar. Xavier, himself commandeering an old Shi'ar ship (see, i told you he's sneaky), is stunned when he finds out (actually, he's also pleased, considering he trained Vulcan). now, where's Richard Dean Anderson/McGyver to cobble up a stargate when you need him? no McGyver, but a small Shi'ar space station (think 7/11) provides the stranded mutants supplies - and a challenge, as it turns out its manned by Skrulls (altogether now: "Secret Invasion!"). saving the two remaining Shi'ar in it, they proceed through Shi'ar space. unknown to Xavier, the two Shi'ar recognize his bald plate anywhere (he's like the Bin Laden of Shi'ar worlds) and wait for the chance to deliver his criminal mind to the bosses.

Vulcan, meanwhile, has grabbed the attention of the Shi'ar high command, with his stargate-destroying habits, and has come face to face with the Imperial Guard. he gives them a run for their money, but goes down for the count. meanwhile, the Shi'ar dispatch a new character, Korvus, who wields the Blade of the Phoenix (don't ask - just play SoulCalibur IV) and can track down the host of the Phoenix Force (currently Rachel). as you all know, the Shi'ar hate the Phoenix Force with a passion equal to their love of feathered helmets. Korvus slips into Xavier's ship, takes everybody down, except Rachel who bonds with the sliver of the Phoenix Force in his blade (don't take that figuratively, dirty minds! - maybe later). too late, the two sneaky Shi'ar take Xavier hostage and get away using Korvus' own ship ... with the inimitable Darwin in tow. Darwin, for those who don't keep up with Marvel's merry mutants, has the power of surviving - he can adapt himself to anything and you can't use the same tactic on him the second time. so the only way to defeat him is to kill him the first time around. wow, another near-omnipotent individual in the Marvel U. i'm at a loss how they haven't destroyed themselves by now.

Korvus, a contrived character whose sole reason for existence is to have a male romantic Romeo for Rachel - kidding! - helps them use their powers to use to bypass those pesky stargates, and find the - yes, of course, they'll be in this one - Starjammers, who are preparing for war. apparently, a coup de'tat has occurred in that time, as Chancellor Araki makes his move, takes Lilandra captive, and unleashes the biggest reversal of all Shi'ar-related X-Men stories - the resurrection of once-Emperor D'Ken! why?? because they KEN!!!

but wait, wasn't he Vulcan's target in the first place? hell, yeah - if you were forcibly ripped from his mom's womb and force-grown to become an adolescent slave, you'd certainly have issues. captured by the Imperial Guard, he's set up to meet Lilandra's sister Deathbird, imprisoned and hidden for years, as part of Araki's scheme to bring all the Shi'ar GOP party together again. Vulcan's hatred for D'Ken is tempered by the still-smolderingly sexy Deathbird, who understandably, has been without uhm, a male companion for a long time (hello, Bishop, how goes the baby-hunting?). Vulcan agrees to team up with the right-wing crowd up until his wedding to Deathbird, with the casual tossing of a captured Xavier into the M'Kraan Crystal as a digestif ...

... that's when all hell breaks loose as Lilandra's forces (including a former general - think Maximus in Gladiator, only much older) and the Starjammers crash the party. in the segue between the last two issues, two major characters bite the dust - and by only one hand (you can tell whose)! Lilandra would have made it the third, but as it turns out, this was a temporary reprieve. she sends a recovered Xavier (thanks to the crystal), Darwin, Warpath, Nightcrawler and a wrong-place-wrong-time Hepzibah back to Earth, especially to the latter's consternation (temporarily, as she would soon get over her grief by knocking boots with Warpath), before continuing the fight against the other half of her divided empire.

as fate would have it, Alex would become the new leader of the Starjammers, along with Lorna and Rachel and Korvus, joining holdovers Ch'od and Raza. current readers would know where this would all lead to.

with such an ambitious-sounding title, a 12-issue run should hold up, and Brubaker masterfully makes it so. this was artist Billy Tan's coming-out party, although he reminds me more of David Finch and a raw Michael Silvestri (there's that Top Cow influence and training) and there are times the characters have disproportionate limbs. i love Clayton Henry's three-issue contributions (the Vulcan parts). in light of the much-hailed Messiah CompleX (comprising a much wider X-cast), this one holds it own, and will be a joy to re-read for years to come (completists should have Deadly Genesis and Emperor Vulcan, and possibly War of Kings).

drive-by readings: Daredevil #500

Daredevil #500 (Marvel)
"The Return of the King: Conclusion"
Ed Brubaker
Ann Nocenti
Michael Lark
Stefano Gaudiano
David Aja
Klaus Janson
Chris Samnee
Paul Azaceta
Matt Hollingsworth
Chris Eliopulos
Marko Djurdjevic/Geof Darrow/Gabriel Dell'Otto/Alex Ross/Patrick Zircher (covers)
and we all thought this Brubaker character couldn't top what Brian Michael Bendis did for our favorite blind lawyer. he also won a what - an Eisner, you say? geddouddaheah!

just kidding. super big fan of Bru, from Sleeper to X-Men to Criminal to Captain America, and to this emphatic conclusion of his Daredevil run. for the first time in a long time, Matt takes a long hard look at his life, and finally makes a decision that has been hinted before but everyone just seemed to go "no, he won't do it ... would he??" and when it happens, they all go "well, yeah ... its about time."

this issue also delves into the long-awaited origin of living-la-vida-loca martial arts sensei Master Izo - who apparently, is a much greater figure than Stick (who's uh, dead for years now, right? - or has he been reincarnated as a blind Asian delivery guy?). the Daredevil/Izo team up is like Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi, only a gazillion times cooler and much more badass. i want Master Izo to be my granddaddy!! he's crude, cunning, devious and insolent and he'll beat up all the bullies in my class!

and Kingpin ... Kingpin ... name me a great DD storyline that didn't have Wilson Fisk's fat (now svelte) ass in it. he may not be as have as much weight (pun intended) as years back when he ruled the underworld, but Brubaker still manages to fit him in such a way it makes sense with his current situation (stripped of his power, demoralized, desperate to find meaning in life). so it stands to reason having Matt take away his golden opportunity to regain his standing will lead to more revenge stories as he might put a lot more effort now into rebuilding what he once had - like making deals with Norman Osborn. little question here: is he still that fat that with two swords buried on his back, he's still breathing? or maybe it was the adrenalin? oh yeah he already got shot in the eye once and still survived. as they say someplace, bad grass die hard.

so where does Matt go from here? certainly not back to Milla (awwww), not back to Dakota (double awwww) and not back to his old life with Foggy (now that's a real friend). no, he's going to do what needs to be done, and that is either lead a criminal organization to a much more benevolent path, or he'll become the World's Most Wanted by 2011. King of The Hand. now that's a Dark Reign.

(props to Ann like-a-girl-from-my-past Nocenti for her little Coney Island tale. Brooklyn represent!)

Captain America: Reborn #2 (Marvel)
Ed Brubaker
Bryan Hitch
Butch Guice
Paul Mounts
Joe Caramagna
John Cassaday/Laura Martin (alternate cover)
Tim Sale/Dave Stewart (variant cover)
ok, it's time to accept the notion that Steve Rogers is not dead (hahahaha!). i have a feeling this should've been done sometime much further down the line - but the events in Dark Reign were much too good to pass up. what remains to be seen is whether he will return to the present time and be the sole Captain America again. and of course, it all makes sense - Ed Brubaker never let us down (start chanting that as your mantra). Steve's having an inside-of-body experience and reliving his WWII days, from storming Nazi castles to his taking the Super Soldier serum to meeting the press with FDR. meanwhile, in the present, Bucky Cap and his girlfriend the Black Widow (i still can't wrap my head around that one - slut!!) get captured by Ares and the H.A.M.M.E.R. goons. is it just me, or has Ares become so one-dimensional now that he's following Osborn's orders? and how does Natasha's presence here coincide with the events in Thunderbolts, where it was just revealed she replaced the Yelena Belova Black Widow on Nick Fury's orders?

if you weren't reading before, time to catch up, boys.

Ed Brubaker never let us down, Ed Brubaker never let us down ...
