clipped wings

drive-by readings

Birds of Prey #24 (DC)
"Endrun Part 4: Impact Fracture"
Gail Simone
Ed Benes/Adriana Melo
J.P. Mayer
Nei Ruffino
Steve Wands
Alina Urusov (cover)
Ryan Sook/Joel Gomez/Fernando Pasarin/Randy Mayor/Carrie Strachan (variant cover)

what we learned: just when we thought the Birds were down, they get back into the game. the White Canary is the sister of 12 brothers Dinah bitchslapped years ago, and now their sister is here to reclaim the family honor. Dove finds the mettle to introduce her fist to Penguin, who's already counting his birds before the eggs have even hatched. meanwhile, Creote and Savant attempt to push Barb off the edge, but its actually Savant who wants to die. and its all been a gay thing. oi.
oh shit moment: can we have Yuen Wo-Ping coordinate the fight scenes between Black and White Canaries? awesome!
what's next: what, Shiva framed Dinah?

Michael Phelps would be proud.

snaps: Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #2

... where we get more girl-on-girl action than the TNA Knockout Tag Team Championship. or not. what we know is, there should be a March Madness-style, single elimination tournament for DC female characters. minus the Mortal Kombat characters. anyone for Power Girl versus Diana for the championship? c'mon, Midway Games and Warner Bros, make this happen!

apparently, Rudolph lost his title for reddest nose of 2009.

i heard Diana wanted to get pierced but this is ridiculous.

c'mon, that's so cliche! hey, Ocean Master, care to file a complaint??

of course, this really doesn't happen but that shocked you all for 10 seconds. and that's what Greg Rucka WANTS.

no, he's not dead!! he's trapped in time and coming back to you in couple of thousand years (two in DCU time).

ditch the collar and that ridiculous faceplate and we're talking, baby!!

drive-by readings: Blackest Night: Superman #1

it's bingo night! wooohoooooo!
Blackest Night: Superman #1 (DC)
"A Sleepy Little Town, Part 1"
James Robinson
Eddy Barrows
Ruy Jose
Julio Ferreira
Rod Reis
Barrows/Nei Ruffino (cover)
Shane Davis/Sandra Hope/Alex Sinclair (variant cover)
first of all, Eddy Barrows draws a mean Krypto (didn't he draw that Cujo in Teen Titans, the one that ate Marvin? WIN!!!). and the rest of the book is no chopped liver either. as for the story ... well, am a little befuddled by the dialogue, at least on the resurrected Kal-L's (yeah you know why) part. his motivation is just to kill everyone? ("yes, grifter, haven't you been reading Blackest Night?" - Geoff Johns) seems so simplistic to me, at least for this Superman tangent of the theme. and somehow, seeing Connor Kent (the artist formerly known as the first arrogant Superboy) flying around again, after Infinite Crisis, makes me shake my head (i know, i know - Action Comics #1). let's just everyone stop making events out of deaths, ok? as Blackest Night shows in a nutshell, absolutely no one stays dead forever.

drive-by readings: Green Lantern #43

you got me there, DiDio! hahahaha!aren't you supposed to bleed green, hehehe

Green Lantern
#43 (DC)
"Tale of the Black Lantern"
Geoff Johns
Doug Mahnke
Christian Alamy
Randy Mayor
Alex Sinclair
Eddy Barrows/Nei Ruffino (variant cover)
pretty neat origin story for who's to be the Black Lantern. William Hand, from the Coast City Hand clan of embalmers, fits into the embodiment of all that is dark, aided by a renegade Guardian who's like Gollum with more intelligence. the covers are actually misleading as the eventual throwdown between Black Hand and Hal Jordan is yet to occur. Doug Mahnke continues to be one of the most reliable pencilers around, and that shot of William blowing his own brains out was sick! Blackest Night better be a rip-roaring tale to take some interest away from Marvel's Dark Reign, or else!

Dick hitting on a bigger dick

ok, ok, the title was way out of line ...

a souped-up, or should we say Suped-up Batman lets the power get to his head, a cliche as he likens it, and goes wild in the dispensing of justice in the world. everything's black and white, when he used to operate in shades of gray.

and he gets a boot in his smug face courtesy of his former ward.

of course, Dick only gets so far before The SuperBat administers a beatdown worthy of Chris Brown (k-ching!).

by the way, isn't it when you say "pick someone your own size", it means you're on equal terms with the person you're saying it to, because that person was bullying somebody smaller?

if so, Dick is wrong because Bruce is a bigger dick than him. am i right or am i right?

quitting the lame comedy routine now ...
